6 Must have items for newborns

And just like that... it’s been one month (and one day, I was meant to post this yesterday but got tired). I honestly cannot believe how quickly this has flown by and I must say I am honoured to be on this amazing journey called motherhood, filled with lots of smiles, dirty nappies, kisses, cuddles and sleepless nights. And to mark Baby Ezekiel turning one month (and one day) I wanted to share with you my top 6 must have items that I honestly could not have lived without. So here goes!

4 Moms Mamaroo

This electric swinger has been a life saver in the moments Baby Zeek just won’t settle down. I use the Mamaroo at least once a day if not more for different reasons. For example if he is on the verge of sleep and I need to attend to something else instead of rocking him – this does it for me. Sometimes he just likes the movement of the swing and looking up at the mobile toy. It has 5 modes of swinging motions and 5 different speeds for every motion – along with the option to play white noise such as rain or a heartbeat or even plug in your phone. And while it is on the pricey side (thank goodness I got it as a gift!) I would say it’s worth the money for a few moments of sanity during the day (and night).

Gaga Beanbag

Who would have thought a beanbag would have made such a massive difference to my life? Baby Zeek can literally spend hours in the beanbag asleep or awake during the day. In fact he is even sleeping in it now as I type away. It is soft, moulds to his body and is at an angle which is amazing, after all who likes laying or relaxing flat on their back anyway? Definite must have as I don’t think I (or Baby Zeek) would survive without it!

Lansiloh Pure Lanolin Nipple Cream

What would I have done in these first weeks without this nipple cream? It helped to soothe my cracked and sore nipples and the best thing about it is that you do not need to remove it before feeding baby so it was handy to just pop on before or after a feed and not think about it again. Absolute lifesaver I tell you!

Water Wipes

I know these wipes are on the pricier side of the market compared to most but they are totally worth it. These wipes are chemical and fragrance free and are made up of 99% water and 1% fruit extract. These wipes are very gentle on the skin and also very wet, I know that sounds silly but when you have a very dirty nappy to clean it comes in very handy. Plus they stay wet all the way down to the last wipe so 100% value for money.

Baby Wearer/ Wrap - Je Porte Mon Bebe

When I am home alone and have to carry baby but need my hands free, this hands down is the best device ever. It reminds me of the modernised way of tying baby on your back with a wrapper, it is just that you wrap the cloth around yourself and safely and snugly fit baby in. He gets to be close to you and helps him to settle, while you have hands free to do your chores around the house with both hands. Genius!

Medela Electric Swing Pump

I know I have mentioned this in the last post on breastfeeding, but this is a must have. I initially got a manual hand pump and deeply regretted it. I would have to sit there for hours trying to pump but didn’t get much and left with a sore hand. The electric pump saved my life – it’s quick, easy and does all the work for you. Plus when your milk comes in or you feel engorged you just need that immediate release, which the pump more than provides for you.
